It’s nice when our game, whatever game that may be, hears us. It’s nice when they recognize their player base and throws us a bone. Call it what you will, but this is the norm for most massively multiplayer games. Now that you’ve met the norm, I’d like you to meet the exception. For over a year now, Fallen Earth has continued to deliver steady updates of both polish and content as well as keeping a constant line of communication open with its subscribers.
Ask any Wastelander, and you’ll find out quickly; Fallen Earth is not a well polished game. It has a lot of combat problems, graphics glitches, and even some animation issues, but you have to ask the right questions to get the real take-away.
Ask those same players how the game has matured. Ask them if the game is getting better. Ask them if the developer listens to their players. Ask them if the developer cares about the game they play. What you’ll find is a very loving community, dedicated to helping out new players and talking Fallen Earth up. Icarus Studios needs no PR Team. After all, they have their players.
This month brings yet more communication from Dave “Archangel” Haydysch, the producer of Fallen Earth in the October State of the Game Address. Haydysch first talks about the changes in combat improvements and Faction Control Points that have already hit the public test server. Haydysch did point out that this was the “first iteration” and that “we will use your feedback to make further adjustments and improvements to the system until we feel the system is ready to go live.” As stated above, I’ve gathered Icarus has always gone out of their way to listen to player feedback. You’d think they believe people are speaking with their wallets, go figure.
Visual improvements were also touted as a focus point going further. Haydysch says “This involves a lot more than just adding new “shiny” to the game. These enhancements will be sweeping changes that will improve the look and feel of the world as a whole.” He also mentioned that their next live event will bring these changes.
Remember, these upcoming changes are currently on the public test server and ready for you to try out. Special NPC’s are also available that can alter your level and gear according to your choosing. I for one, will see you in Sector 2!
